Sometimes strain shows itself more clearly in the body; other times in the mind. It can be difficult to determine when it is ‘too much’—and when to respond. Here, there is an opportunity to take the signals seriously, explore what is at play, and identify what needs adjustment.

When strain becomes stress
Stress is significantly more prevalent today and affects people of all ages, working lives and life situations. I know both professionally and personally what prolonged stress can cause. At one point in my own life, stress had cognitive consequences that clearly showed how seriously and pervasively stress can affect both functional ability and quality of life.
In my work as a therapist and stress coach, I help people understand their stress reactions, recognize early signals, and work on regulating the nervous system. At the same time, I support the process of creating a better understanding of one's own limits and needs so that the stress does not continue inappropriately.

When the body reacts
The body is often the first to register that the load has become too high. This can manifest as:

Persistent fatigue that is not relieved by sleep

Tension, headaches, or recurring physical pain

Restlessness in the body, palpitations or shallow breathing
These reactions are not random, but the body's way of signaling that recovery no longer matches the load.
The mind becomes overloaded.
When stress affects the mental level, many people experience:

Worrying thoughts and difficulty finding peace

Reduced concentration, overview and memory

A constant experience of time pressure and inner demands
Mental stress often manifests itself as a constant state of alertness, where the brain rarely gets the opportunity to recover.
Emotional changes
Stress also affects emotional balance. It can manifest itself as:

Increased irritability, vulnerability, or emotional exhaustion

Feelings of inadequacy or self-criticism

Less joy, commitment and excitement in relationships
These emotional reactions are not an expression of a lack of robustness, but of a nervous system under constant pressure.
